A celebration of remembrance, creativity, and the people who brought our Día de los Muertos altar to life.
At Mellano & Company, we work with flowers every day. We harvest them, prepare them, sell them, and help bring our customers' creative visions to life.
But sometimes, flowers take on an even deeper meaning.
This year, our Mellano LA team came together to create a special Día de los Muertos altar at The Original Los Angeles Flower Market.
What started as an idea became something meaningful through the creativity, dedication, and teamwork of the people behind it.
More Than a Floral Display
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away.
Ofrendas, or altars, are created with photographs, flowers, candles, and personal items to celebrate the lives and memories of those being honored.
Marigolds, known as cempasúchil, are especially significant. Their vibrant colors and fragrance are traditionally believed to guide the spirits of loved ones during the celebration.
For our team, creating this altar was an opportunity to participate in a meaningful tradition while bringing people together through flowers.
Every Detail Was a Team Effort
Behind every finished display are the people who make it happen.
From gathering materials and arranging flowers to preparing decorations and adding personal touches, our Mellano LA team worked together to bring the altar to life.
One particularly special detail was a handmade marigold chain created by a member of our warehouse team.
What began as her own creative idea became part of the finished display, showing how even the smallest contributions can make something extraordinary.
It's these thoughtful details that make the altar more than just an arrangement of flowers.
They make it personal.
The People Behind the Flowers
We often talk about the flowers we sell, but just as important are the people who work with them every day.Our team brings different skills, experiences, and perspectives to Mellano. And projects like this give us an opportunity to see their creativity beyond their everyday responsibilities.
The Día de los Muertos altar is a reflection of that teamwork.
Each person played a part in creating something the entire team can be proud of.
A Moment to Remember
As the final flowers and decorations come together, the altar serves as a reminder of why traditions like Día de los Muertos matter.
It's an opportunity to remember loved ones, share stories, and celebrate the connections that continue beyond a person's lifetime.
We're grateful to our Mellano LA team for the time, care, and creativity they put into this project.
And we're honored to share it with our floral community.
